Series: "Absence"

This series came about when I lived in Madrid. As I walked through the city streets, parks, and other crowded places, I developed a feeling of contained absence. This internal absence is reflected in this series of faceless photographs.

I experienced Absence in diverse ways and one of them was the lack of models to take the photographs. I solved this by installing masks on trees. From that moment on, I sought to portray absence, loneliness, and I avoided showing feelings by erasing faces and continuing to use masks.

This absence gave me the opportunity to remain incognito in certain situations, especially when feeling vulnerable. Hiding faces, emotions or feelings is for me the representation of a physical separation from the world, like staying apart and observing without being observed. Have you ever thought about being somewhere where no one knows you?

This series was part of my internship at EFTI, International Center for Photography and Film, in Madrid, Spain.
